CHICAGO-The city's Plan Commission approved on Thursday the retail portion of a redevelopment project that will be anchored by Whole Foods. The project is geared at “providing a sense of hope” to an area of the city beset with violence.

The 18,000-square-foot store would be built on the corner of 63rd and Halstead streets, across from Kennedy-King College, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Whether the project moves forward hinges on an $11-million city subsidy for site preparation that will require an expiring tax-increment financing district to be extended. See story in the Chicago-Sun-Times.
