WASHINGTON, DC-The District's manager of its convention center and sports venues, Events DC, is looking to hire a consultant who will draft plans for the redevelopment of the 52-year-old RFK Stadium, its surrounding 80 acres and the DC Armory.
The stadium's current largest tenant, soccer team DC United, is looking to move into a new stadium on Buzzard Point in a few years.
Gregory A. O'Dell, president of Events DC, says, ““As we hope, from the city's perspective that a new stadium for DC United crystalizes, that presents both a gap and an opportunity for us at the RFK campus.”
The solicitation for consultants requires interested companies to propose options for both how to redevelop the properties with the expectation that RFK Stadium would be demolished. The firms are also expected to draft plans for how the property might be re-used for the next eight-to-10 years if the stadium was not torn down. See story in the Washington Post.
