NEW YORK CITY-A plan to build two high-rise apartment towers on the Brooklyn waterfront is likely in the hands of City Councilman Stephen Levin.

Levin, who represents the Greenpoint neighborhood, could help sway fellow Council members which way to vote on Thursday on whether to approve the plan proposed by developers Joseph Chetrit and David Bistricer. The plan calls for the development of one 30-story building and a second 40-story tower at 77 Commercial St.

The outcome of the vote could determine the fate of approximately a dozen proposed high-rise properties along the Brooklyn waterfront, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Thursday session is the last meeting of the City Council this year.

To build taller than the 15-stories currently allowed, Chetrit and Bistricer plan to purchase development rights from an adjacent site owned by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. See story in the Wall Street Journal.
