SAN ANTONIO-CPS Energy's decision to possibly build a new headquarters here comes at a time when the utility could take advantage of attractive construction costs.
The utility announced to its workers on Friday that it is studying the possible move from leased space in an aging building at 145 Navarro St. to a new headquarters. The firm plans to issue a Request for Proposals to interested developers early next year, according to the San Antonio Business Journal.
The company's possible new headquarters project could take advantage of the area's construction and real-estate markets' ongoing struggle to recover from the building downturn, says Pramod Dibble, building technology analyst for Frost & Sullivan.
“If they've got the capital, they're going to be getting a great deal, from everything from the consulting to actual construction,” says Dibble. CPS Energy officials say the headquarters project is in the very early planning stages. See story in the San Antonio Business Journal.
