SUGAR LAND, TX-Construction on the nearly $84-million Sugar Land Performing Arts Center is scheduled to begin next summer on a nearly 40-acre parcel here.
The Sugar Land City Council selected the Linbeck Group as the construction manager at risk for the $83.6-million project that will feature up to 6,500 seats. Linbeck Group was awarded a $98,500 contract for pre-construction services for the project to be built in the Telfair commercial district along Hwy. 59 and University Boulevard. The company's past projects include Reliant Stadium in Houston and the Bill and Margo Winspear Opera House in Dallas, according to Community Impact Newspaper.
The City Council approved a development agreement with ACE Theatrical Group this past July that included the design, development and construction of the Performing Arts Center.
“In the past few months, we have made a lot of progress in getting to the 40% mark for the design development plans,” city engineer Chris Steubing said. “The design team continues to look at refining the details as we move forward.” Design work on the project is expected to be finished in February or March of 2014.
