SILVER SPRING, MD-Several Montgomery County-based hospitals are undertaking major expansion projects this year to better serve the county's expanding population.
Holy Cross Hospital is building a 93-bed hospital in Germantown, which is expected to open in October. Construction on that project began in July 2012.
Holy Cross is also expanding its Silver Spring facility to include a seven-story patient care building. A parking garage addition has already been finished. The patient care building is expected to be completed by the fall of 2015, according to Gazette.net.
In other health-care expansion projects in the region, Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park is considering a move to White Oak. The project would cost $373 million, including $33 million earmarked for the renovation of the existing Takoma Park campus. The new 200-bed White Oak facility would open in late 2018 if the hospital's plans were approved. In addition, Suburban Hospital's $230-million project to improve its Bethesda campus is moving toward final approval, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The expansion includes a four-story, 235,597-square-foot addition and a new parking garage with more than 1,200 spaces. The hospital hopes to break ground in late 2014 on the project.
