FORT LAUDERDALE-In 2013, a recovering economy and strong tourist trade bolstered hotel occupancy rates in South Florida and rooms rates.
According to data released by Smith Travel Research, the hotel occupancy rate in Broward County was 77% at the end of December 2013, compared with 74.3% in December 2012. The average daily rate for rooms in the county was $124.87, up from $116.60 in December 2012, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Palm Beach County hotels had a 71% occupancy rate in December 2013, as compared to 66.5% a year earlier. Average daily room rates soared to $162.29 from $150.81 in 2012.
For the full year, Broward hotels registered a 74.7% occupancy rate and average daily room rates of $119.33. Those figures compared with a 72.4% occupancy rate and an average daily rate of $114.59 for the full year of 2012.
Palm Beach County hotels posted a 71.6% occupancy rate for 2013 and an average daily rate of $145.84. For 2012, Palm Beach County had a 67.4% occupancy rate and charged daily room rates of $140.92. See story in the Sun-Sentinel.
