ENGELWOOD CLIFFS, NJ-The National Resource Defense Council and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, both vocal opponents of the proposed LG Electronics headquarters here, are poised to join the legal challenge over the proposed building height of the project.

Robert Kennedy, senior attorney for the National Resource Defense Council, said on Thursday, “The more people find out about this, the more overwhelming the indignation will be about this project.”

The NRDC and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation “are moving to join a lawsuit against LG Electronics over its plans to build an office tower that would rise high above the [Palisades Interstate Park], permanently spoiling the unbroken Palisades sweeping northwards from the George Washington Bridge,” the NRDC stated.

LG spokesman John Taylor stated n a e-mail that the company has complied with all of the borough's requirements and expects to turn back the legal challenges to the project, according to The Record.

“LG remains confident that it can successfully meet this attempted challenge,” Taylor states “LG is therefore moving ahead with its plans.” The company broke ground on the project last year. A second court case that challenges the zoning approvals of the project has not been ruled on as yet.

The electronics firm said in its statement: “LG's new headquarters will in no way harm the Palisades. Built on private land a quarter mile back from the Palisades, it will be a glass building designed to reflect its surroundings.” See story in The Record.
