ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ-LG Electronics has filed legal papers seeking the courts to stop an appeal by the Natural Resource Defense Council and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation that are looking to halt construction on its new headquarters project here.
The South Korean-based firm filed a legal brief on Feb. 3 charging that the pending appeal from the National Resources Defense Council and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation is the latest in repeated attempts to delay the project, according to The Record.
LG states in its legal brief, "the Court should not permit such gamesmanship, especially because the NRDC and NJCF'S motion is untimely, their interests are adequately represented by the original-intervening plaintiffs, and the current parties are already in the midst of preparing and filing their appellate briefs."
LG Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications John Taylor says the electronics company is moving ahead with its plans for the headquarters building on Sylvan Avenue despite the court challenges.
"While LG respects the legal appeal process, we strongly believe the trial court made the right decision based on long-established legal principles that municipalities have the power and authority to best determine local zoning decisions," Taylor states. "We believe the appeals court will agree with that decision and continue to uphold those principles." See story in The Record.
