ROCKVILLE, MD-The Food and Drug Administration's relocation of approximately 1,000 workers over the next two years to space in North Bethesda will create some large vacancies in multiple buildings here.
The FDA is letting leases expire at multiple buildings over the next two years totaling approximately 250,000 square feet for space leased, but no longer needed, by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The leases are temporary as the FDA moves ahead with its White Oak campus consolidation project in Silver Spring, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Among the Rockville-based buildings the FDA will vacate include: 1350 Piccard Drive, where the FDA leases 89,402 square feet under a lease that will expire in August 2014; 2094 Gaither Road, where the FDA leases 49,758 square feet under a lease to expire in August 2016; and 2098 Gaither Road, where the FDA leases 45,160 square feet under a lease slated to expire in January 2017. The agency will also vacate 7700 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, where the FDA leases 47,133 square feet under a lease set to expire in September 2015. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
