PHILADELPHIA-Brickstone Realty Cos. is looking to redevelop the Lits building by coring out a portion of the building and constructing a 35-story residential tower on the original foundation.

The new building would be an independent structure that would involve cutting a hole in the roof of the existing Lits building, demolishing seven stories of the property and building the new building, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. The plans for the project have been filed with the Philadelphia Historical Commission.

Seven stories of the Lits building that faces Filbert Street would be retained as part of the project.

The property now totals 900,000 square feet. The proposed new building would bring the Lits property to 1.4 million square feet. See story in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
