SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—Officials with startup Steel ORCA say the firm has plans to build a new $650-million digital utility center at the site of a former Pfizer and Wyeth lab complex on Ridge Road here.

The complex will include more than 300,000 square feet of “digital white space” with 12,000 information technology racks and 45 megawatts of grid power, CEO David Crocker says. The first phase of the project is expected to open in April, according to The Times of Trenton.

“We are filling a huge void in the eastern Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey markets with a strategically located option for a collocation center with multiple fiber carriers, unparalleled security and significant power capacity,” Crocker says. “The strong market demand, amplified by the Hurricane Sandy aftermath, made site selection, resiliency and security the critical components to this project.” See story in The Times.
