PHILADELPHIA–The University of Pennsylvania Health System has opted to take two more floors of space at the 3737 Market Street building being developed on the Science Center campus by Wexford Science & Technology and the Science Center.
Wexford says the health system will lease an additional 55,900 square feet at the building under construction in University City. In total, UPHS will occupy 211,600 square feet on eight floors of the building that should open in the fall.
The bu ilding is now 72% leased, according to Wexford.
Jim Berens, president of Wexford, says the Science Center is increasingly a hub for the life sciences, technology development, and an economic engine for University City community.
Wexford is a subsidiary of BioMed Realty. It develops facilities for both profit-making and nonprofit institutions, especially universities, university-related research parks and healthcare systems.
The Science Center, founded in 1963, claims to be the first and still the largest urban research park in the US. Graduate organizations and current residents of the Science Center business incubators have created more than 15,000 jobs that remain in the Philadelphia region.
