ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida, through its Hard Rock franchise, has filed paperwork with state casino regulators that points to its interest in either acquiring or developing a casino here.
Among its filings, Hard Rock asked New Jersey gaming regulators for a ruling on whether the Seminole tribe would need to qualify for a casino license should Hard Rock acquire or develop one here, according to the Associated Press. Published reports have speculated Hard Rock is interested in acquiring the struggling Revel Casino Hotel here.
The State Division of Gaming Enforcement ruled last month the tribe does not need to qualify for a license but stated several Hard Rock executives would need to, including company president and CEO James Allen.
Kerry Langan, a spokeswoman for the state's gambling division, says Hard Rock has already applied for a statement of compliance under the state Casino Control Act. "That process allows an entity and persons associated with it to be investigated prior to an acquisition of a casino interest, and based on the investigation, they can be determined to meet certain licensure or qualification criteria," she says.
