TALLAHASSEE, FL—Environmental groups can put another notch in their holster as Florida officials have dropped plans to sell more than 5,000 acres of environmentally sensitive land.

Environmental groups blasted the Florida Department of Environmental Protection last summer when the agency identified more than 5,000 acres as land to potentially auction off. The agency hoped to raise as much as $50 million for purchase of other environmental lands, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

In a statement released Friday, the agency stated, "The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will cease its comprehensive land sale effort and will shift its focus to potential sales of non-conservation land.” See story in the Orlando Sentinel.
