ROCKVILLE, MD—Foulger-Pratt Cos.' Rockville Metro Plaza II building has been certified as LEED Platinum by USGBC after achieving 46 credits to qualify for the top rating.
Foulger-Pratt incorporated a number of energy efficient systems and unique features, including wind power, and used design features to support workplace wellness among other green measures. The building was also located close to multiple transit options, being next to the Rockville Metro station and within walking distance of Rockville Town Center. The 297,000-square foot trophy office building is Choice Hotels International's new headquarters.
Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region in general can count the most LEED-certified buildings in the nation-save one exception, according to recent USGBC figures. Washington, DC had 106 LEED-certified projects representing 32.45 square feet of space per resident for 2013. Maryland and Virginia followed Illinois in the second and third positions, respectively, certifying 2.20 and 2.11 square feet of LEED space per resident in 2013.
The state with the most LEED projects, though, was Illinois, which moved into the top position for LEED last year, certifying 171 projects representing 2.29 square feet of LEED space per resident.
