KIAMESAHA LAKE, NY-EPR Properties and partner Empire Resorts, Inc. unveiled its new $750-million Adelaar four-season destination casino resort to be built at the site of the former Concord Resort here.

The EPR and Empire Resorts team has secured all the necessary approvals for the venture but is awaiting word on the award of up to two casino licenses by New York State for the Catskills region. EPR and Empire Resorts, which currently operates the Monticello Casino and Raceway, say they intend to apply with state gaming authorities to own and operate the gaming resort that will also feature a four-star hotel and a water park. The firm states that it intends to break ground within 30 days of securing a destination gaming resort license from New York State. Observers believe the state will announce its selection of gaming resort locations in the fall of this year.

Company officials explain the project's name Adelaar is derived from the Dutch word for eagle.

The development on 1,700 acres is expected to create approximately 5,000 jobs, including 2,550 construction jobs and 2,200 full and part time workers once the resort is operational. The project will feature 1,100 hotel rooms in five lodging venues, including a 391-room casino hotel, a 350-room waterpark hotel; a 250-room resort hotel; an 80-room adventure hotel and a 35-room bed and breakfast.

The casino will total 650,000 square feet and will feature a 70,000-square-foot gaming floor. There will also be a 200,000-square-foot entertainment village, including a 60,000-square-foot CineBowl & Grill and 20 other planned retail and dining venues. Other facets of the project include water and adventure parks and trails for a host of areas and trails for a plethora of recreational activities. In addition, EPR and Empire Resorts announced that Rees Jones has been retained to oversee the renovation of the 18-hole Monster Golf Course at Adelaar.

EPR Properties President and CEO David Brain states, “As a major Sullivan County landowner, we are very excited about the prospect of bringing the Adelaar vision to life. This new world-class destination resort will deliver significant economic benefits for local businesses, create dependable local employment and have a positive impact on tourism in upstate New York. With our SEQRA, permitting and final site plan in place, Adelaar is well prepared to come to market quickly.”
