ANNAPOLIS, MD—The state of Maryland shed 9,800 jobs in January, according to a report released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The labor report also put a damper on what was a positive December labor report. The U.S. Department of Labor revised Maryland's December employment numbers to show 4,300 new jobs, as compared to the previously reported 7,300 jobs added.

Job losses were widespread during the especaially frigid January, particularly affecting the construction trades and professional services sector. Government agencies accounted for approximately 1,200 lost jobs in January. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
