ANNAPOLIS, MD—A proposal geared to increasing film production in Maryland was approved by the state Senate on Monday evening.
The bill, approved by a 45-1 vote, increases the amount of annual film production tax credits the state can award to $18.5 million, according to the Baltimore Sun. The credit for movie and television productions was set to ratchet back to $7.5 million in the next fiscal year.
The state could lose production projects, such as the Netflix series "House of Cards," which has filmed most of its first two seasons at sites in Harford County and Baltimore. A state film industry coalition has stated that the House of Cards production alone has generated $286 million for the state's economy. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
