RADNOR, PA—The Radnor Township Board of Commissioners voted 4-2 on Monday evening to approve a necessary zone change for the $300-million new dormitory plan at Villanova University.
The plan calls for the development of new dormitories, a performing arts center, parking garage and campus bookstore. The university submitted a smaller plan than its original proposal two years ago that drew significant local opposition, according to The Inquirer.
Opponents of the project cited the potential for increased traffic and noise to the Main Line area in Delaware County. Villanova officials countered that the project would decrease traffic due to the pedestrian bridge over Lancaster Ave. that would replace crosswalks currently used by students.
The new dormitory would house approximately 1,200 students who currently live in off campus residences and drive to campus. Villanova still must submit final design plans for municipal approval before construction can begin on the project. See story in The Inquirer.
