WASHINGTON, DC—The Washington Post is in negotiations to relocate the newspaper and its other interests into as much as 300,000 square feet of space at the One Franklin Square building here.

The newspaper is in talks with building owner Hines Interests. The 12-story building at 1301 K St. NW totals 599,217 square feet. The building is about three blocks from the buildings at 15th and L streets NW that have housed the newspaper's operations since 1950.

The selection of the building followed a real estate search launched prior to the acquisition of the newspaper by Jeffrey P. Bezos, founder of Amazon, last October. No lease deal has been signed as yet, according to a report in the Washington Post.

Carr Properties closed on its $159-million purchase of the Washington Post's current headquarters last week. See story in the Washington Post.
