CHESHIRE, CT—Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc., and WS Development say they plan to build a 510,000-square-foot outlet center on property at the northwest quadrant of the I-691 and the Route 10 interchange here.

The project, currently in the pre-development stage, will be built on a 115-acre assemblage of land that is under purchase and sale agreements, with closings expected to occur later this year. The development when completed will be jointly owned by Tanger of Greensboro, NC and Chestnut Hill, MA-based WS Development. The project received final site plan approval from the Cheshire Planning and Zoning Commission in February.

“This strategic partnership with WS Development will deliver a world class outlet center to this quintessential New England community. We believe this new retail jewel will be a must-visit destination and an exceptional experience for our shoppers," says Steven B. Tanger, president and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers.

"We have a long history of creating best in class open air shopping centers in New England and beyond, and we are excited about the opportunity to incorporate Tanger Outlets into our vision for a dynamic mixed-use development of which Cheshire will be proud," adds Dick Marks, executive vice president of WS Development.

WS Development develops, owns, manages and leases an extensive portfolio of more than 85 properties totalling more than 20 million square feet with an additional 4 million square feet under development.

The Cheshire outlet center will be Tanger's third in the state of Connecticut. Its current holdings in the Nutmeg State currently include an outlet center in Westbrook and one in development at the Foxwoods Resort Casino. Tanger operates and owns or has an ownership interest in, a portfolio of 44 upscale outlet shopping centers in 26 states in the U.S. and in Canada, totaling approximately 13.3 million square feet.
