WASHINGTON, DC—Abdo Development is anxious to get started on a planned mixed-use project at the intersection of 14th Street and Rhode Island Avenue.

The Washington, DC-based developer has filed permits to build a six-story building that would feature 30 apartments, one floor of office space and 10,000 square feet of ground floor and below grade retail, according to the Washington Business Journal. The firm plans to raze 1400 and 1402 St. NW to make way for its new mixed-use venture.

“We're beyond excited about this,” says Jim Abdo, president of Abdo Development. “We obviously love 14th Street, being the first one over here trumpeting this corridor since way back when. We really think this is an amazing corner.”

Abdo, which maintains its corporate headquarters at 1404 14th St. NW, hopes to begin demolition in the fall on the buildings. Construction would take between 14 months to 18 months to complete. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
