WASHINGTON, DC—The JBG Cos. have filed for permits to demolish approximately half of the 1300 block of U Street to make way for its planned eight-story mixed-use development here.

The Chevy Chase, MD-based developer plans to begin construction on the project that will feature 195 apartments and ground floor retail by the fourth quarter of this year. The company plans to raze five buildings 1306, 1310, 1314, 1318 and 1322 U St. NW.

A Rite Aid pharmacy currently located at 1306 U is still open while much of the rest of the block has relocated, according to the Washington Business Journal.

JBG has extensive holdings in the U Street corridor, including Trader Joe's-anchored Louis at 14th development, The District at 14th and S, the ongoing Atlantic Plumbing redevelopment at Eighth and V, and its two new mixed-use buildings at Eighth Street NW and Florida Avenue NW.
