ARLINGTON, VA—A proposal by the Federal Aviation Administration could have a dramatic impact on the Crystal City section of Arlington near Washington Reagan National Airport.
As first reported by ArlingtonNow, the policy change being considered by the FAA would lower the maximum allowable building height near airports.
The FAA announced it was studying changes to the regulations governing building heights on April 28. Existing buildings would not be impacted by the possible policy change, however, several buildings slated for redevelopment would be. The change would also impact Rosslyn.
Rep. Jim Moran introduced a bill Friday that would require the FAA to put the policy change through the “standard rule-making procedure,” including a cost-benefit analysis.
“The airlines and the airports authority are acting out of greed,” Moran says.. “It's self-centered on their part. It's disappointing and it should be stopped in my view. I'm just asking that they go through the normal, standard rule-making procedure where you look at the real-world impact, but they don't want to consider what the economic impact would be in surrounding communities because their stovepipe attitude is they exist for the benefit of the airlines.” See story at ArlingtonNow.
