MIAMI—Nobody likes higher gas prices—especially commuters—but one Downtown Miami office building is doing its best to help ease the pain at the pump for its tenants. Brickell Bay Office Tower is offering charging stations for electronic vehicles.

Brickell Bay Office Tower is installing the Blink electric charging station. Tenants and guests can tap into what you might call “workplace charging" at the 32-story, class A office building in Miami's Brickell Financial District.

Christian Driussi, vice president of Brickell Bay Office Tower, says the building owner's recognize that “plug-in electric and hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular” and wanted to add the convenience of electric vehicle charging to its tenants. He also promised to continue exploring ways to "keep the building up to date with the latest technology and use energy more efficiently” and help tenants save money.

Brickell Bay Office Tower is installing a240 volt/30amp charging station in the building's 750-space parking garage. The charging station will offer level two charging capabilities at an average cost of approximately $1 per hour for Blink members and $2 per hour for guests. Blink memberships are not required for vehicle charging.

With the Blink station, Brickell Bay Office Tower moves one step closer to winning LEED certification. Other recent moves toward that status include the installation of new magnetic chillers, which are driving 30 percent in energy cost savings. Building owners have also made improvement to the elevators, driving down power consumption and transporting people more quickly.
