WHEATON, MD—Montgomery County broke ground last week on the first health facility it has built in more than 20 years. The new 55,000-square foot building will be located next to the existing facility at 2000 Dennis Ave. The existing facility will continue to be used until the new building is ready and then it will be demolished.
The new facility will consist of two buildings joined by a common entry lobby. The building has been designed to sustainable practices and will meet special air handling requirements.
Public health programs located at the Center include Communicable Disease & Epidemiology, Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response, Immunization, Disease Control, HIV Services, Sexually Transmitted Diseases Services and Tuberculosis Control.
The county is embarking on a redevelopment because demand for these services have been steadily growing over the years.
The project team consists of Grimm + Parker, which is serving as the architect and the Walsh Group, which is the contractor.
Montgomery County Government's Department of General Services is overseeing the project.
