CHICAGO—An increasing proportion of the metro area's workforce has gone mobile and don't have to report each day to an office in one of the region's business centers. Co-working spaces have mushroomed in response, and the Gold Coast and Old Town neighborhoods just scored their first.
Assemble, a 13,000-square-foot space at 1165 N. Clark St., located above the Clark and Division Red Line stop, will open on August 1. It will provide private workspaces for individual members and companies of up to 10 employees.
Many of the region's co-working spaces have a “start-up climate,” Assemble officials say, but their space will allow individuals and companies to “graduate” and get “the amenities they want in an area where many of them live.” An Assemble spokesperson was not available at press time, but GlobeSt.com will provide an update tomorrow.
The new space, which has a high-style loft design, underwent a $750,000 renovation led by GREC Architects and Synergy Construction Group. Floor-to-ceiling 14-foot windows offer city views and natural light. And glass-enclosed offices are complemented by common areas featuring exposed brick and wood-top desks.
Assemble offers month-to-month leases for shared workstations and 54 private offices, and members can utilize two large conference rooms and a large open cafe.
