WASHINGTON, DC—A host of dignitaries, including Washington, DC Mayor Vincent Gray and Marriott Board Chairman Bill Marriott are expected to be on hand today to dedicate the largest hotel facility in the city—The Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C. hotel.

Today's scheduled dedication ceremony marks the end of the long-standing effort by government and business officials to establish a convention center hotel adjacent to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The 1,175-room hotel at 9th Street and Massachusetts Ave. NW is the largest hotel in DC, slightly ahead of the Marriott Wardman Park at 1,169 rooms. The Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center in National Harbor is still the region's largest hotel with 2,000 rooms, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C., has 100,000 square feet of meeting space, five ground-floor restaurants, and an underground pedestrian connector that allows hotel guests to walk directly into the convention center.

The hotel opened its doors for its first guests on May 1. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
