WASHINGTON, DC—On the 25th anniversary of the release of the classic sports film "Field of Dreams" officials with the D.C. United professional soccer team have compared their proposed stadium to that storied fictional ballpark.
The D.C. United team released new renderings of the stadium to drum up ticket sales and City Council support for the venture that calls for the District to spend up to $150 million to acquire the stadium property and undertake site preparations for the eventual construction, according to the Washington Business Journal.
“This is our field of dreams, and it will be a catalyst for economic development at Buzzard Point that will generate $204 million in tax revenue for the city during the stadium lease term and create over 1,550 jobs,” wrote D.C. United COO Tom Hunt in a letter to prospective ticket holders.
The team also described its project as “a stadium for all” and urged it fans to support the project at upcoming Council hearings. The Council is scheduled to discuss the venture at a June 26th session. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
