WASHINGTON, DC—In a move to attract more high-end travelers, the Embassy Suites hotel at the Chevy Chase Pavilion will be undergoing a $10.5-million renovation.

Plans at the 198-room hotel in the Friendship Heights section of the district, include doubling the size of its lobby, creating a glass-and-stainless steel entrance, expanding its restaurant, upgrading the health club and modernizing rooms, according to the Washington Post.

Work, which is expected to be completed by October of this year, will also include the installation of hardwood floors in every room. The Washington-DC hotel will be the only hotel in the chain to offer such an amenity.

“We are going for the high-end business and leisure travelers,” says Jeff Brainard, area general manager for Destination Hotels, which manages the Embassy Suites location. He adds that rates will increase for midweek business travelers from $269 to $329, while weekend rates will range from $179 to $229.

“It's really keeping up with the changing dynamics in the market around Friendship Heights and Chevy Chase,” Brainard says. “New restaurants like Range are bringing in a high-end, more sophisticated client to the market. We want to be able to offer them accommodations and experiences commensurate with the area.” See story in the Washington Post.
