PHILADELPHIA—City officials are attempting to convince cold cuts manufacturer Dietz & Watson to use the former Frankford Arsenal site in North Philadelphia for its warehouse and trucking center.
The new building would replace a 260,000-square-foot facility in Delanco in Burlington County, NJ that was destroyed by fire last year, according to the Inquirer. Real estate and city sources tell the newspaper that Dietz & Watson is the focus of ordinances introduced in April by the city that would swap city and state property tracts to make way for an unnamed industrial user on land near the Delaware River south of Dietz & Watson's offices and deli-meat production plant.
Dietz & Watson maintains its corporate headquarters nearby on Tacony Street. The company, founded in 1939, is one of the largest preparers of premium deli meats and artisan cheeses in the United States. It also has facilities in Baltimore, MD and Corfu, NY.
The City Council could vote on these critical ordinances on Thursday. See story in the Inquirer.
