JERSEY CITY, NJ—Executives with Global Container Terminals held a grand opening on Wednesday marking the completion of its $325-million expansion project.
The project has resulted in greater efficiency and safety at the facility that will now be able to process double the number of containers it did prior to the expansion, according to the Jersey Journal.
“Before, it could take up to two hours to get a truck totally through the process,” Global Terminals COO John Atkins said at the grand opening. “Once we are fully utilizing the new system, it should be about 45 minutes.”
Global Terminal President and CEO Jim Devine noted that the expanded terminal is one of only five in the area that can be accessed without passing under the Bayonne Bridge, which allows the terminal to accept larger vessels. See story in the Jersey Journal.
