NATIONAL HABOR, MD—MGM Resorts International has selected Baltimore-based Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. to build its $1-billion casino resort here.
While site preparation work has been underway since April on the MGM National Harbor, construction on the 1-million-square-foot resort is expected to begin within six weeks, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The resort, when completed in the summer of 2016, will feature 3,600 slot machines, 160 table games, a 3,000-seat theater, 55,000 square feet of retail, 35,000 square feet of meeting space, a 4,700-space parking garage and numerous restaurants.
“This is a Maryland-based company with an admirable record and reputation in Prince George's County,” MGM National Harbor President Lorenzo Creighton states on its hiring of the contracting firm that has worked on more than 1,000 projects in Maryland and the D.C. area valued at approximately $8 billion. “Whiting-Turner has stayed true to its roots and we feel will be the perfect partner to bring to life our vision for MGM National Harbor.”
Whiting-Turner as prime general contractor will direct, supervise and coordinate construction of MGM National Harbor and is expected to oversee about 2,000 construction workers during the life of the project. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
