GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ—Construction has commenced on the 415,000-square-foot Gloucester Township Premium Outlets being built on a 65-acre parcel between Black Horse Pike and Route 42 here.

Site clearing work began earlier this month at the former farm that will also feature 35,000 square feet of commercial space, according to the Star Ledger. The development, which is expected to open its doors next summer, is being developed by a joint venture of PREIT-Rubin, Inc., which built the Cherry Hill Mall and Voorhees Town Center, and Simon Property Group, which owns the Jersey Shore Premium Outlets, Philadelphia Premium Outlets and Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, NY.

“[The start of construction] is the start of a very bright future for Gloucester Township,” says Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer. “It puts us on the map as a community. People will be coming into our community to spend their money here, which will help other business in the town grow.”

Despite some last minute claims by some residents of a possible burial ground at the property, township officials say there is no evidence of any burial remains at the site. See story in the Star Ledger.
