FAIR LAWN, NJ—Sandvik, Inc., the US subsidiary of Sandvik AB, a global high technology industrial and engineering group, reports it will open its new 100,000-square-foot US headquarters here on July 1.

The new facility contains a combination of modern office space, extensive meeting facilities a and a Productivity Center and Aerospace Application Center for customer training, engineering and process development.

The more than $20-million facility at 1702 Nevins Road was built on a portion of the original building footprint with a focus on reducing environmental impact while enhancing the work environment, company officials say. The new facility was constructed with materials and systems controls that promote energy efficiency and reduce water consumption. More than 75% of all waste generated from the construction was diverted from landfills and either reused, recycled or repurposed, they add.

"As one of the original property owners in this area, we took this as an opportunity to redevelop our corporate home in New Jersey and recycle many elements of our original footprint," says Rick Askin, president of Sandvik, Inc. "Investing more than $20 million in our state-of-the-art facility demonstrates Sandvik's commitment to New Jersey and our dedication to technology and innovation."

Sandvik, which has maintained a presence in Fair Lawn since the mid-1950s, donated most of the furnishings and equipment from the previous building to various local organizations including: the Borough of Fair Lawn, Habitat for Humanity, Fair Lawn Public Schools and the Fair Lawn Fire and Rescue departments. The familiar “Sandvik Red Oak” tree was preserved and stands at the building's entrance.
