WASHINGTON, DC—The District has pushed back the planned St. Elizabeths East redevelopment project and is planning to once again issue a Request for Proposals for a design-build firm to undertake infrastructure work on the venture.
While the District will eventually select a master builder for the redevelopment project, it has withdrawn its solicitation for required infrastructure work at the 183-acre site in Southeast D.C. The move will push back construction on the redevelopment project until at least the spring of 2015, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Reggie Sanders, spokesman for the D.C. Department of Transportation, says the project will be advertised again as a design-build. "We are currently modifying contract documents incorporating items that were not very clearly identified in initial solicitation," Sanders notes.
At press time it is unclear when a new RFP for the infrastructure work, which will include new roads, water lines, and sewers, will be released. The District has committed more than $100 million to the redevelopment project. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
