BETHESDA, MD—Locally-based development firm EYA is proposing to build a 168-unit townhome development in the middle of a major commercial park that features the corporate headquarters of Marriott International and Lockheed Martin.
EYA is scheduled to present its plans to the Montgomery County Planning Board on July 17 for the 10-acre parcel in the Rock Spring Park, according to Bethesda Now. Although office vacancy rates have improved since the recession in the Rock Spring Park area, county planners recommended approval of the townhouse community project despite the fact that the master plan “did not specifically recommend residential uses.”
EYA is offering the county right-of-way along Fernwood Drive for a future North Bethesda Transitway, which would run bus rapid transit from White Flint to the Westfield Montgomery mall. The developer is proposing a total of 304 parking spots for the project—32 fewer than required by county code. See story at Bethesda Now.
