Irvine Spectrum Courtyard by Marriott Opens

IRVINE, CA—The $50-million Courtyard by Marriott at Irvine Spectrum opened earlier this week. The 210-room project, located at the corner of Alton Pkwy. and Irvine Center Dr., is the centerpiece hotel property for the Irvine Spectrum and offers design features and amenities befitting boutique full-service hotel.

Produced by R.D. Olson Development and designed by international architects WATG, the hotel represents the Southern California debut of Marriott's latest Gen Next design and features distressed wood floors and high-back leather chairs in addition to modern conveniences. The lobby offers welcome pedestals; an interactive GoBoard displaying news, weather, traffic, restaurants and other items of interest; and semi-enclosed media pods with flat-panel TVs. Guest rooms include technology features including free Wi-Fi, convenience plugs and iPhone/iPod docking stations; smart TVs with full connectivity; DVRs; and free streaming of guests' subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu or other media.

In addition, the hotel has an oversized 25-meter saltwater lap pool and four technology-laden pool cabanas with smart TVs, sound systems and high-speed Wi-Fi. Additional public-space amenities include a spa area, fire pits and a putting green and an 1,800-square-foot fitness center. Also featured is a lounge area with a horseshoe-shaped bar, as well as a bistro that serves coffee, a full breakfast and quick-serve dining.

Also, the hotel offers 8,500 square feet of meeting space, a 5,000-square-foot ballroom with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, flexible room configurations, 18-ft. ceilings and a pre-function area that flows out to a 3,000-square-foot events lawn for outdoor activities. A boardroom is also available for private gatherings.

According to Bob Olson, CEO and founder of R.D. Olson Development, “This project has special features not found in any other Courtyard property.” Perry Brown, SVP at WATG adds that the team's “design idea blends the history of Irvine ranch with a vision that communicates the future of the area.”

In addition, Doug Holte, president of Irvine Co. Office Properties, says the firm has worked with R.D. Olson and Marriott “to create a hotel that builds on the dynamic downtown vibrancy of the Irvine Spectrum.”

R.D. Olson has plans for a second 175-room hotel in the parcel adjacent to the Courtyard by Marriott Irvine Spectrum. Groundbreaking for that development is expected in early 2015.

The Irvine Spectrum hotel arrives amid a flurry of development projects by R.D. Olson, which was recently named Developer of the Year by Marriott International. The firm has completed seven hotels over the past three years, will deliver three hotels in 2015 and is in the planning phase on the boutique Lido House Hotel in Newport Beach, CA. Olson will retain ownership of the hotel, with management services provided by Marriott International.
