WASHINGTON, DC—The latest proposal for the redevelopment of the Florida Avenue Market could involve the development of theater, retail, office and some residential space.
Edens Realty Inc. filed a planned unit application with the DC Zoning Commission late last week that calls for more than 500,000 square feet of mixed-use space to be built atop and around the existing Florida Avenue Market building at 1309 Fifth St. NE. according to the Washington Business Journal.
The first phase of the project would involve an approximately 40,000-square-foot theater to be built atop the market with a 112,000-square-foot four-story office building to be constructed on top of the new theater.
A second phase would include 25,000 square feet to 35,000 square feet of retail and 260,000 to 290,000 square feet of office or residential space, plus 300 to 475 parking spaces, all in a new building on the site of an existing warehouse and distribution facility at 1329 Fifth St. NE.
