SOUTH BLOOMING GROVE, NY—The Cordish Cos. and Penn National Gaming Inc. say they have signed agreements with the local unionized building trades and hotel workers for their proposed $750-million casino-resort to be built here.
Cordish, based in Baltimore and Penn National, which is headquartered in Wyomissing, PA, signed agreements for its Live! Hotel & Casino New York with the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council and the Hotel and Motel Trades Council, AFL-CIO to “foster economic development.”

Peter Ward, president of the Hotel and Motel Trades Council, adds that the organization is “delighted to have reached a labor peace agreement with The Cordish Companies and Penn National Gaming and look forward to working with them to create good jobs with fair wages and benefits for New Yorkers.”
The Live! Hotel & Casino New York will include an upscale boutique hotel with more than 300 rooms and luxury suites; a destination spa and fitness center; in excess of 3,000 slot machines; more than 250 live table games, several marquee restaurants including Bobby Flay Steak, Smorgasburg, The Cheesecake Factory, Fornino, and Bobby's Burger Palace; as well as a live entertainment venue and a spacious conference center. The facility is expected to create more than 4,000 permanent local jobs and nearly 3,000 construction jobs.
Cordish and Penn National filed an application for a gaming license with the New York State Gaming Commission on June 30. It is among eight development teams and nine projects vying for as many as two gaming licenses in the Catskills/Hudson Valley region of New York State. The Gaming Commission will be holding hearings this summer and has stated it plans to make selections in the early fall.
