WASHINGTON, DC—A prospectus expected to come before Congress shortly would have the State Department bring approximately 2,000 of its workers to one building in Arlington County.

The General Servcies Administration prospectus, which must pass the House and Senate to be implemented, is a major consolidation that will be part of the first batch of fiscal year 2015 prospectuses to go before Congress, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The State Department consolidation would have the agency take approximately 343,000 square feet in an area that would include properties in Rosslyn, Ballston, Crystal City or Pentagon City. The plan calls for the consolidation of two State Department agencies now in Rosslyn to a property in that Arlington County area.

If and when Congress authorizes the prospectus, it should garner significant landlord interest, particularly because vacancy rates in the county have spiked of late. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
