ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—With a closing date scheduled for Aug. 31, Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian says that he and Caesars executives met last week with a group that may purchase the Showboat Atlantic City.
Speaking on Tuesday at a press conference on the Steel Pier, Mayor Guardian said the meeting with the potential buyers of the Showboat casino took place at Caesars Atlantic City last week. He describes the group as a “very strong” potential buyer, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
The mayor said the group's plan for the soon to be shuttered casino “is superb.” The press event featured Republican lawmakers who have come out against any plan for an expansion of casino gaming in the Garden State to Northern New Jersey.
Mayor Guardian said he would never support such a proposal. “It makes no sense to have a casino outside Atlantic City,” he said. “It will hurt Atlantic City.” See story in the Press of Atlantic City.
