NEW YORK CITY—Couturier Victor de Souza is coming to a pop-up boutique in Harlem for his first New York location. The opening at 2312 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. coincides with the month-long Harlem Week 40th anniversary celebrations, and de Souza's New York Fashion Week debut on Sept. 3.
A Douglas Elliman Retail Group team of chairman Faith Hope Consolo, EVP Joseph Acquino and Arthur Maglio has brokered the transaction, the latest in a long line of deals bringing retail and other services to Harlem and Northern Manhattan. They represented both landlord and tenant in the deal.
“By choosing to open his first New York store here in the midst of Harlem Week, Mr. de Souza has demonstrated his commitment to an important re-emerging area with strong roots in fashion,” says Consolo. “His highly acclaimed designs are bold, fresh and exciting, which is exactly why he will be warmly embraced here.” Among the designer's clients are Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez and Alicia Keys.
The Consolo/Acquino team has been instrumental in bringing a number of other fashion and food businesses to Harlem over the years, including YSB Salon, N Harlem, Questan Seafood, Harlem Wine Gallery, Ottomanelli Brothers, City Cookhouse and Maharajah Palace Restaurant. In addition, the team has been responsible for introducing many service-based and nonprofit community-based organizations to Harlem and Northern Manhattan, including the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Infrastructure Engineering Inc., Food Bank For New York City, Children's Aid Society, Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention, Friends of the Children, Pono Learning, Trinity Women's Health Care, Moe's Sneaker Spot and Open Bright Pediatric Dentistry.
