WASHINGTON, DC—The U.S. Department of Education has been forced to turn the page on its plans to consolidate three of its expired leases into the federally-owned Mary Switzer Building.

The Department of Health and Human Services it turns out has decided to occupy the entire building at 300 C St. SW. The Department of Education has responded by seeking other office options through a prospectus posted on the General Services Administration's website, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The three expired leases are located at 550 12th St. SW, 555 New Jersey Ave. NW, and 1990 K St. NW. The prospectus must be approved by the House and the Senate before the GSA moves forward with the Department of Education office consolidation requirement.

The GSA has proposed cutting the Department of Education's footprint from 502,329 square feet to no more than 290,000 square feet. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
