BETHESDA, MD—Suburban Hospital has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for its $230-million expansion project on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

The project calls for a 235,000-square-foot addition to the 70-year-old hospital as well as a new parking garage. Hospital officials have stated that the existing facility is too small to deal with its current patient load, according to BethesdaNow.com.

“We are very excited to be moving ahead with this project,” says hospital spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein-Levy said.

The project drew intense opposition from neighborhood groups and litigation, but zoning approvals were upheld by The County Circuit Court and later the state's Court of Special Appeals.

The parking garage is scheduled to open in 2017 and the new building is projected to open in the summer of 2019. See story at BethesdaNow.com.
