CHANTILLY, VA—Washington, DC-based developer Akridge, which acquired 50 acres inside the Westfields International Center here in 2012, is proposing a large mixed-use project at the site 10 miles south of Dulles International Airport.
The master plan for Akridge's Preserve at Westfields, which was accepted by Fairfax County in late August, calls for 925,000 square feet of residential development, 280,000 square feet of office and 15,000 square feet of retail space, according to the Washington Business Journal.
“Mixed-use has always been considered as a possibility at this location,” says Sarah Knutson, Akridge vice president for development. Akridge acquired the property for $8.25 million.
The Westfields business park is currently zoned for 16 million square feet of commercial development, of which approximately 8 million has been constructed. If the Akridge plan is approved, it would be the first retail and residential space at the 1,100-acre site. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
