BALTIMORE, MD—Multifamily developer Yonah Zahler is attempting to convert a garage circa the 1930s in the Mount Vernon section of the city into a 50-unit apartment building.

Zahler appeared on Tuesday before the Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation to discuss his $8.5-million venture at 816 N. Calvert St.

The project calls for the construction of a three-story addition on the roof, renovating the garage that now houses Iggies restaurant and structured parking, and rebuilding a burned-out rowhouse, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

CHAP members expressed concerns about whether a seven-foot foot setback along Calvert Street was sufficient due to its location in a historic district. The commission asked Zahler to return at a future date with more drawings of the project. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
