SAN FRANCISCO—New York Life Real Estate Investors has hired Thomas Hwang as senior director, asset management.

Based in the firm's San Francisco office, Hwang is primarily responsible for running a portfolio of institutional assets throughout the western United States. He reports to David Cumming, head of asset management for the division's Madison Fund. Hwang started at the firm in July. 

“Thomas' extensive experience with managing diverse and complex portfolios is a terrific addition to New York Life Real Estate Investors as we continue to execute our long-term oriented investment strategy,” said Cumming. “We're excited to welcome Thomas to our team and we look forward to his many contributions.”

Prior to joining New York Life, Hwang was SVP of Asset Management for IndCor Properties, where he was responsible for a West Coast portfolio of over 10 million square feet. Prior to IndCor, he was senior vice president at WCV Commercial Properties, which was acquired by The Blackstone Group to become a part of IndCor. Mr. Hwang has also held senior asset manager positions with JP Morgan and Prudential Real Estate Investors. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
