BALTIMORE—The new five-year deal between the Port of Baltimore and automaker BMW includes a new processing facility here.

The five-year deal announced last week is expected to bring approximately $2.5 billion worth of BMW vehicles through the Port of Baltimore, which is already the top auto import port in the country, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The new processing facility is expected to create approximately 200 jobs. "Our portfolio just got better," says Maryland Port Administration's Executive Director Jim White, who intends "to make sure a five-year commitment turns into a 20-year commitment."

Located at 2700 Broening Highway, the processing facility will serve 96 dealers within BMW's Central and Eastern regions, according to BMW Blog.

Ludwig Willisch, president and CEO of BMW North America, says volume at the Port of Baltimore is likely to sharply increase in the coming years with the new processing facility. The company expects 166,000 vehicles to arrive at the port through the end of 2016. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
